What does it mean to be successful? This is something that has many different points of view. The world teaches us that to be successful, we need to climb the ladder to the top, make as much money as possible, buy expensive things and go on fancy trips. Doing so at the expense of whoever may get in your way. Asking for forgiveness later as you reach your goals. Yet, while this may bring you a great deal of material possessions and many shallow relationships and friends, it will likely never help you to fill that empty feeling you will suffer from not doing something of real sustenance and purpose. Often it leads to depression or even suicide. I think the world may have it wrong.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I have been blessed with a much greater outlook on what success is. While there is nothing wrong with climbing the corporate ladder to attain dreams of leadership and finance, we must do so in a manner that will be pleasing to the Lord. This means we must be honest in all we do and more importantly, not allow our family to suffer the sorrows of not having a father or mother at home as often as possible because they are too busy with work. While the world may cheer our worldly successes, the Lord will not and will hold us accountable for our family failures. True success if working the best, you can to provide for your family, both matter of the world and more importantly, matters of the eternities.
